You Don't Need Another Writing Challenge
It might look like a bright and shiny way to get inspired, but it's really a distraction.
Dearest Writer,
Today I came across a Creativity Challenge. For a split second, I thought, what a fun idea! This could inspire me to do something great, and be a part of a bunch of people doing the same thing!
And yes, challenges can definitely help get you over the hump of stagnant inspiration. But they can also pressure you into adding one more thing ot your plate. And they may even serve as a bright shiny object to distract you from a project you’re trying to finish, but doesn’t feel as bright and shiny as this new thing.
For me, it’s the novel I’m wrapping up. I’m so close to being done, and all I have to do is apply edits from my beta readers notes before it goes to my editor.
But I’ve also spent so much time with this novel, it’s starting to feel so mundane. If I have to read another sentence from it, I’m going to tear my eyeballs out.
(Note from author: It’s a good book, I promise, lol)
So the concept of a writing challenge looks appealing. Or a new exercise routine. Or cleaning my room, reading a million books, starting another new craft project…
You don’t need another writing challenge, neither do I. What we need to do is focus on the project we’re avoiding. Touch it every day until it’s done. It may seem mundane and uninspiring at times, but that’s only because we’ve been working on it for so long.
I promise you, it will be amazing once it’s ready to be shared with the world.
So, put down the Creativity Challenge, the latest craft project, or whatever distraction is interrupting your work. And go finish your brilliant project.
Until the next chapter,
Crissi
P.S. What’s your distraction of choice, these days?
If you need a love letter to help you back to the page, this book is for you.
And I don’t just write love letters, I also write love stories. Find them all here.

This is seriously a problem for me. I don’t even ever finish any of the challenges or workshops anyway!
